One of the secrets to a smooth recording session is taking care of a lot of small details in advance by the staff of a well machined recording studio. It is a culmination of all these little efforts that add up to a satisfying and successful recording experience or at least increasing the odds of having one. “Sweatin’ the Small Stuff” goes behind the scenes and shows you all the little painstaking details that are dealt with on a regular basis. The seemingly mundane and tedious tasks are the elemental building blocks that are designed with serving the client in mind. That is why attention to detail is such an important trait of those who get hired to work at Avatar Studios.
An experienced engineer in the heat of a recording moment reaches for a pencil to jot down an important detail about a take and pulls out an unsharpened pencil, or worse yet, one with a broken point. This one unnecessary momentary distraction might be enough to throw one off of a creative epiphany or working rhythm that has been smooth up to that point. A creative idea can be gone as fast as it appears. It might be the spark for an emotional outburst from tensions that has been building up to that point. Sharpies whose ink has dried up might illicit a similar response. We don’t want a simple detail like this to derail a recording session. Don’t laugh, sometimes it does, and anything we can do to reduce distractions, the smoother the session will go.
